I think it’s time
For me to teach
Groups of words
Called Parts of Speech!
You should know
What they mean
They help writers
I have seen!
So when you write
It’s no reach
For you to use
The Parts of Speech!
First are nouns
Like “home” and “king”
Nouns will name
A person, place or thing!
Next are pronouns
Such as “we” and “she”
They take place of nouns
Don’t you see?
Then we have verbs
Like “fetch” and “list”
Verbs show action
Many exist!
How about adjectives?
I will not bribe
Use “rough” and “beautiful”
Adjectives describe!
Adverbs are tricky
Such as “gently” and “soon”
They modify verbs
And adjectives too!
Conjunctions are my favorite
These words connect
Words and phrases
Like cause and effect!
Prepositions…prepositions
Such as “through” and “down”
They come before words
Named pronouns and nouns!
Last are interjections
I didn’t forget
They show emotion
Ah! We’re all set!
Parts of Speech
Will help you write
So do your best
That’s your plight!
