A short story!
Here are exercises
I try to do
To help with poetry
For me and you!
First I find
A quiet place
Writing poetry
Is not a race!
It can take
An hour or day
Week or year
I have to say!
I choose a topic
That interests me
So it's easy to write
Would you agree?
Or there are times
Through failure and glory
That my life experiences
Tell a great story!
I take a walk
And look around
I want to brainstorm
Verbs and nouns!
I need to record
Adjectives too
They describe
This is true!
Any words
You will bet
I'll jot them down
So I don't forget!
Then I think
Of words to rhyme
I will list them
In an outline!
But I say
Time after time
That many poems
Do not rhyme!
Next I begin
To compose my thoughts
And put them in order
I was taught!
I make sure
You need to hear
That my poem has rhythm
And is very clear!
I read it over
Again and again
Is it perfect?
It's not my friend!
When I write
I will not lie
That my poem
Will be revised!
I will rewrite
So it sounds fine
Sometimes three
Four or five times!
How will I know
My poem is done?
If it sends a message
Then it's the one!
This poem is ready
I want to share
With all my readers
Who really care!
