Author: Just Simply Write
Children have been asking
Morning, noon, and night
How to use punctuation
In every sentence they write!
Sometimes it’s confusing
Thus, here’s a simple rule
Read this poem often
To help you during school!
So when you’re writing
You need to show
How to use punctuation
Ready…Set…Go!
The beginning of a sentence,
Proper noun, and a name
Use a capital letter
I hope that’s not a pain!
First, we have a period
Do you need a clue?
It belongs after statements
And abbreviations too!
Don’t forget the question mark
This one is hard to make
It follows every asking sentence
That’s true for goodness sake!
How about a comma?
You see them everywhere
They separate ideas and elements
I hope that’s loud and clear!
Next comes exclamation point
This one you’ll understand
Use it to show expression
I’m confident that you can!
Then we have quotation marks
They’re used when characters speak
We also call it dialogue
You’ll find them if you seek!
Have you seen ellipsis?
I need to ask because
If you want to use them
Expect your reader to pause!
My favorite is the colon
The last one to remain
Please go ask your teachers
It’s their turn to explain!
Did you like my poem?
Now go and have some fun
You won’t have any problems
With PUNCTUATION!
