As a special education teacher, I have searched far and wide to find organizational tools to assist my students in increasing their writing skills and ability. Simply Written Story Tools is what I was looking for. This tool provides my students with strategies, organization and ideas. By incorporating Story Tools into my instruction, my students are utilizing strategies and thus becoming better writers.

I have used the written response journals with my students and I have had a huge success with them from beginning writing students to students that write with extensive creativity. I have been able to incorporate your journal working with fiction and non-fiction stories as well as working on projects based on a skill that I'm teaching. I love them!!! My second grade class is not complete without these journals and I would recommend them to any classroom teacher. Thank you so much for sharing this tool with me.

"I love these products. The first year I used them, I saved them for the end of the year. When we finished our basal for the year, I had the children read at their instructional level and respond in the Reader's Response Journal. The children were enthusiastic and wanted to produce quality pieces. Parents were excited to have a nice keepsake of their child's second grade year. With just a little modeling, the independent workers could do this independently. They were proud of their accomplishments.

The second year I used them, I produced them during the weeks that were short weeks. The children chose books in small groups, some in pairs and then had book chats and went off to their seats to complete this independently. Then they ran their own groups and responded to each other's work. THEY LOVED THIS!

This year I have put them in the Literacy Center Area of the room. Sometimes we respond to the story we read, sometimes they read an extra book and then they respond in the Reader's Response Journal. It has become a part of their routine!"

As a first grade teacher, I find uses for your lined paper with my students. I particularly enjoy using the picture paper and am creating books with it all the time. It is easy to reproduce on both white and colored paper. Your paper gives me the chance to be creative in all of the written projects that we do in every subject area.

Many Thanks,

I have been using the Reader's Response Journals with my first grade students for two years now. I find them to be an effective way to get my students to critically think about the text. The journals address a variety of comprehension strategies in an organized and student friendly manner. These journals are a terrific resource for teaching and assessing reading comprehension.
